Club Program

Kirkwood United Soccer Club is a community-rooted youth soccer organization offering competitive teams for both boys and girls from 2nd grade through high school. The club participates in the St. Louis Youth Soccer Association (SLYSA) during both Fall and Spring seasons, with many teams also playing in local indoor and futsal leagues.

Kirkwood United fields teams across a wide competitive spectrum, typically offering multiple teams per age group:

  • Three 7v7 teams for U9–U10
  • Two 9v9 teams for U11–U12
  • One to two 11v11 teams for U13 and older

Our newly introduced Player Development Pathway is a three-track system designed to support players at every stage—from their first kick to elite competition. Inspired by Kirkwood’s railroad heritage, the pathway symbolizes purposeful movement, offering tailored environments for growth, enjoyment, and success.

  • White Track (Foundation): For Kindergarten–1st Grade beginners. Focused on fun, fundamentals, and basic game understanding.
  • Red Track (Development): For 2nd grade and up. Emphasizes technical growth and tactical learning in a supportive, competitive environment.
  • Black Track (Performance): For advanced, committed players seeking high-level training and exposure to elite competition.

Players are evaluated and placed in the track that best matches their development and goals, with flexibility to move between tracks as they grow. Every player is on their own journey—we provide the track to help them thrive.

Teams generally participate in at least one tournament per season, with additional tournaments at the discretion of coaches. While there is no residency requirement, teams often include players from the Kirkwood School District. The club supports multi-sport athletes and encourages participation in extracurricular activities, with the expectation that Kirkwood United is the primary fall sport commitment.

Tryout and Placement Overview

Our tryout and placement process is designed to identify each player’s current stage of development and match them with the training track that best supports their growth — White (Foundation), Red (Development), or Black (Performance). This approach ensures players are placed in an environment that fosters long-term success, maximizes potential, and promotes a positive, enjoyable experience.

Key Principles:

  • Individualized Placement: Players are assigned to a track based on skill level, motivation, and readiness, ensuring the best environment for development.
  • Player-Centered Evaluation: Our assessments prioritize each player's well-being, using age-appropriate standards to create a fair, supportive experience.
  • Dynamic Progression: Player movement between tracks is encouraged as growth occurs, offering continuous opportunities for advancement and development.
